Study Abroad Study abroad can take you to destinations all around the world! Almost 50 percent of HDFS students participate in at least one study abroad experience during their years at Illinois. Gain Practical Experience There are a variety of internship and volunteer opportunities offered through Human Development and Family Studies. Centers and Services Our faculty are not content to just find out more about children and families, they want to improve their lives. We have a long tradition of creating unique educational resources and programs for helping families. Our students combine classroom work with practical experience to gain an in-depth understanding of how children/teens develop, how families function effectively, and how to improve the lives of children/teens, families, and the professionals who work with them. Majoring in HDFS is a great foundation for training and careers in health-related professions (e.g., pediatrics, occupational therapy), human services (e.g., counseling, marriage and family therapy), law or human resources (e.g., family attorney, HR specialist), and other meaningful fields of work.
